Rhonda Riggott Stevens is the past President of Food Allergy Association of Connecticut (FAACT) and primarily responsible for transforming the West Hartford Food Allergy Support Group into FAACT, a 501(C)(3) non-profit charitable organization. She was the chief organizer of the highly successful March 25, 2006 sold out conference, Food Allergy in Schools Summit, that was attended by school nurses, school personnel, parents, caregivers and medical professionals from around Connecticut. On a legislative level, Rhonda has participated in the passage of seven food allergy-related laws in CT over the past six years as a parent advocate. She is the author of the Section 504 Primer for Food Allergy & Asthma and the Section 504 Outline for Food Severe Allergy, and her work has been cited as resources by numerous school districts across the country and by the Food Allergy Initiative, NY. As an advocate, Rhonda has assisted hundreds of families across the country to obtain and maintain disability designations. She was a member of the Connecticut State Department of Education Committee that wrote the Guidelines to Managing Life-Threatening Food Allergies in CT Schools in 2006. Rhonda is also the mother of two children with severe food allergies and through her advocacy efforts has spearheaded equal access for children with severe food allergy and asthma in her school district and other districts nationwide. She attended the University of Connecticut, the University of Florence, Italy and the University of Granada, Spain for her Bachelor’s degree in International Trade. She holds a Master of Arts degree in social studies from Wesleyan University. Rhonda is a CT certified public school teacher with endorsements in Grades 7-12: social studies, history, Spanish, Italian; Middle Level 4-8, all subjects, and GED social studies and history. She has taught at the elementary, middle and high school levels. Rhonda has instructed curriculum integration and middle level theory and practice as an adjunct professor at St. Joseph College, West Hartford, CT. Rhonda also teaches reading and writing to children of all ages on a consulting basis.
